Pass Plus Courses 


The driving instructors at Students Driving School conduct Pass Plus Driving Courses in Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn and Chorley


Pass Plus Courses are only available to newly qualified drivers and for pupils who have passed their driving tests in the last two years. It is designed to help them become better drivers with an incentive to receive discounts on their first car insurance.

 

Students Driving Schools driving instructors are pass plus registered and they can conduct pass plus courses in your local areas. After successfully completing a pass plus course you will be sent a pass plus certificate from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

 

You can then use this certificate to claim a discount on your first car insurance. All Pass Plus Courses consists of completing six modules in different driving conditions:

  • in town centres
  • in all weather conditions
  • on rural and country roads
  • night time driving
  • on dual carriageways
  • motorway tuition


Driving around a town

The first module covers the complexities of driving in a city or town centre, this will include complex junctions, one way systems and town centre car parks. You will focus on:

  • observation, judgement and awareness
  • consideration for vulnerable road users
  • showing caution
  • keeping space around your car
  • parking in town


All weather driving  

This module will cover the difficulties of driving in all types of weather conditions. You'll focus on driving at the correct speed, keeping safe stopping distances and the importance of being able to see and be seen in:

  • rain and sleet
  • snow and ice
  • mist and fog
  • bright sunshine
  • what causes skids
  • how to prevent skids
  • correcting slow-speed skids
  • braking on poor surfaces
  • aquaplaning



Driving in the countryside

This module will look at the important key points of driving in the country including:

  • observing the road ahead
  • making safe progress
  • bends, hills, uneven roads and dead ground
  • pedestrians, horse riders and animals in the road
  • farm entrances
  • Slow moving vehicles

Driving at night                                                        

This covers the important parts of driving at night. You'll learn about:

  • the importance of using headlights correctly
  • adjusting to the dark
  • judging speed and distance
  • the correct use of lights and keeping them clean
  • dealing with dazzle
  • difficult to see road users



Driving on dual carriageways

Dual carriageways are high speed roads where the two carriageways are separated by a central reservation. You will learn new skills in:

  • effective observation and use of mirrors
  • forward planning and correct judgement
  • separation distances
  • how to join and leave a dual carriageway safely
  • overtaking and lane discipline
  • the correct use of speed



Driving on motorways   

This module is extremely important to newly qualified drivers. You will learn vital life saving skills including:

  • planning your journey
  • joining and leaving a motorway, and using slip roads
  • safe speeds in different circumstances
  • effective observation
  • signs, signals and markings
  • overtaking and lane discipline
  • courtesy to other road users
  • motorway fatigue
  • breakdown procedures
  • use of lights, including hazard warning lights
  • debris on the carriageway
